    1. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed that US President Donald Trump suggested the Canada-US boundary could disappear and that Trump’s administration is interested in Canada’s critical minerals. Trudeau made these comments during a closed-door meeting with business and industry leaders, where he also stated that Trump has a list of complaints against Canada, including its level of defense spending and contributions to NORAD. Specifically, Trump referenced a 1908 treaty between the United States and Great Britain that established the 49th parallel as the boundary between the US and the then-Dominion of Canada, suggesting that it could be erased. Trudeau and his aides were caught off guard by this reference, and had to quickly research the treaty during the call, ultimately informing Trump that the treaty was replaced by the Canadian Constitution, which was patriated from Great Britain by Trudeau’s father, former Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Trudeau’s comments were made after a call with Trump, where the US president agreed to delay implementing tariffs on Canadian products in exchange for Canada’s pledge to tighten border security and address concerns about fentanyl smuggling. The incident has raised concerns about the potential for Trump to wield tariff threats to force changes to the Canada-US-Mexico free trade agreement.
