I think MBS is a realist and even a machiavellian type, and has pivoted on foreign policy by willing to accept the Taliban are the actual rulers of Afgjanistan (if they can keep Al qaeda in check and continue to fight and defeat the much more dangerous Khorsan Prvience faction of Isis), is willing to let Turkey have a say in Syria and willing to do business with the current regime in Syria despite some Al qaeda and Syrian muslim Brotherhood ties of the HTS, has closed ranks with Qatar (as the Saudi behind the scenes economic, diplomatic and financial rivarly with the UAE grows over Yemen, Sudan, the Red Sea, the new great game in Africa, airliner mideast rivaries, opec poltics), is playing hardball as it influence in the region grows for final normalization with Israel , and has been modernizing it economy and out the whabbi establishment on a leash, and lastly it detente with Iran , while at the same time building up it milltary and hinting at a nuclear program if Iran gain nukes, etc

I think Syria shows MBS is rational enough to pivot and maintain ties with the new Syrian govt despite reservations about the HTS Al qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood past, and despite Turkey now having a greater say in Syria. MBS might be the modern middle east version of Otto Von Bismark in his realism and realpolitik.
