    1. These glasses are not meant for everyday use but for emergencies only basically.

You can also get off the shelf corrections for short sightedness quite cheap, however not as commonly as the far sightedness ones. However, as those glasses are typically worn all day, most go for prescription glasses that match your eyes in all parameters and not just in one parameter.

    3. It’s basically the same with sunglasses etc. You can get cheap ones off the shelf, but once you use a custom frame, special lenses etc. It gets a lot more expensive.

Comfort and exactly fitting dioptres are the biggest shortcoming of those cheap ones, which is extremely noticeable when you need to wear them all day.

    4. Because those are reading glasses, they aren’t fit to correct visual defects. They are like a magnifying glass and are produced in mass production. Real optical glasses are high quality, highly individual and solely adjusted for you visual defects.

These glasses have cheap frames and very basic lenses. DM also sells contact lenses with basic – prescriptions. They’ll do in a pinch, but if you want nicer frames or need a prescription that doesn’t align with just simple increments of +/- 1/1.5/2/… (for example if you have astigmatism on top of myopia), then you’ll have to go to an optician.

These are reading glasses, mostly for people with age related presbyopia.

I needed them after my cataract surgery because it takes some time until you can get your eyes stabilize and you can invest more in your glasses.

They have not the quality you need for glasses you wear constantly. They are ment to to sit in a pocket, ready to grab if you need to read something. After a couple of weeks they are so damaged, that you‘ll need a new pair. I still have one of those in every bag, just in case I forget my „good ones“.
