He expressed concerns about Chinese investments in Panama, suggesting that they could threaten the canal’s operations during conflicts. Rubio also criticized the current costs for American ships using the canal, arguing that they should not be overcharged given the U.S. investment in its construction. Despite Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino’s firm stance against negotiating canal ownership, Rubio indicated that the topic would still be addressed during his visit.
