Imagine a future where humans and robots compete on an equal playing field not in chess or coding, but in endurance sports! This half-marathon in Beijing is such a fascinating step forward in blending robotics and athleticism.

It raises so many questions: Will robotic technology ever surpass human endurance in events like this? How will advancements in AI and battery life shape the future of robotics in sports?

The point of sports is to see what the human body is capable of. This is intriguing as a one off just to see how close we can come to a robot but I don’t see this becoming an actual thing.

And why not compete against a F1 racing car ? What’s the point ? Because it has vaguely the same shape as a human don’t means that there’s anything to compare to.

    4. It’s impressive that robots have made it to the point where they can compete. Just a few years ago they still had to be tethered while standing. Will the power packs last long enough for the robots to even finish?

    5. I mean, this is certainly interesting from the perspective of how far the machines have come. I don’t think anyone cares how well/poorly the robot actually does in rankings, but whether it can do it all. That’s several hours it needs to traverse the terrain, presumably without breaks (aside from the battery swaps according to the article), and independent of user input, and with tons of obstacles to track in the form of fellow runners.

    6. Just another fun-loving robot-related event designed to prepare us so we don’t get all weird when robot dogs with weaponry equipped are wandering around our public spaces “keeping the peace.”

I’ve a feeling tthat this is the billionaires checking if their kill bots can outrun us yet.

I for one can’t wait to watch sports where every three point field goal is made, every pass completed, and every strongman lift executed 100% perfect every rep /s

Thank god finally robots doing something useful and running marathons for us

Now that it has arrived I can’t think of anything more boring.  A snowmobile can go fast too, who cares?

Fuck that nonsense, it’s basically just an ad.

It’s a fucking machine, you know how fast it is before it hits the start line

Does the robot get tired? Running is a test to your endurance. What’s the point of robots competing in endurance when they are machines? Is the battery gonna run low? Come on

      Battery swapping.

Now we have come to one of the biggest obstacle to robots taking over,

      No swapping.
