Mistral’s founder and CEO Arthur Mensch doesn’t believe in god — and therefore, he doesn’t believe in artificial general intelligence.

Artificial general intelligence, also referred to as AGI, is a level of AI that will outperform humans. It has yet to be reached, but it’s a buzzy topic of conversation as leaders grapple with the possibility that AI [may become more intelligent than humans](https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-says-ai-will-outsmart-humans-by-2026-2024-4) — and soon.

Leaders have expressed concerns about the potential negative outcomes that may arise from AGI, like jobs being replaced by AI. Or worse, [humans going extinct](https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-report-risks-human-extinction-state-department-expert-reaction-2024-3).

The 31-year-old CEO recently gained publicity as the AI company he founded with two college friends in Paris has emerged as one of the [most promising tech companies in the world](https://www.businessinsider.com/mistral-in-talks-to-raise-funding-at-2-billion-valuation-2023-11) — and the hottest in Europe.

I never got that impression, if anything what I see is mostly about people wanting to live a significantly more self determined life, increase their QoL and/or getting to futuristic technology XY.

The “you just want to create god” is, for the most part, just something people come up with to throw shade at those who pursue / support the creation of AGI/ASI.
