**SS: Egypt bolsters presence in Somalia under AU mission**

Egypt’s participation in the new African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) aims to stabilize the Horn of Africa, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stated, asserting it poses no threat to others.

Cairo and Mogadishu recently declared a strategic partnership, with Egypt training Somali forces and securing key installations. Egypt’s contingent could form 25% of the 11,000-strong mission, replacing ATMIS, which ended in December.

This move comes amid tensions with Ethiopia over the Nile dam and rival influence in the region, with Egypt expanding military cooperation across the Horn.
