Ich und mein Bruder sind Armenier aus Sydney.
Vor ein paar Monaten sind wir auf unserer Osteuropareise in die Ukraine gestolpert und sind irgendwann in Lemberg gelandet. Dort wurde uns vom kleinen Armenien erzählt und wir besuchten es.
Es gab eine armenische Kirche, dort gab uns auch der Priester, der aus Armenien kam, eine kleine Führung und segnete unsere Kreuze.
Diese Straße war früher voller Armenier. Das Lustige ist, dass wir im kleinen Armenien Kachapuri (georgisches Essen) gegessen haben, als wir die Ukraine besuchten, was uns zum Lachen brachte.

I will never understand why interiors of Armenian churches outside of Armenia are so much more impressive than the ones in Armenia. I am not talking about really old ones, which don’t need too much bling to be cool, but more recent ones always seem to be prettier outside of Armenia.
For those who don’t know, the street sign says „Armenian Street“ in Ukrainian.

Lviv was actually surprisingly armenian. Probably has something to do with the fact it was part of Poland and Poland itself was very connected with Armenians (still is). Very neat. I’ve been to that area.
The Armenians of Poland were/are somewhat unique in the diaspora. This was a rather large community with outsized commercial influence. Special privileges were granted which allowed the community to remain autonomous and endogamous for centuries. However, by the 17th century, the move towards Catholicism sped up the assimilation process. Interesting article:
