  1. How’s the energy efficiency situation at your place? Does it have wall insulation, European style windows, energy recovering ventilation, AC/heat pump instead of resistive heating? Any plans to improve it, if the circumstances allow for it?

I just use bigger clothes, heating doesn’t stick, its cold after half an hour later

As far as older buildings, it makes no economic sense for someone to make them energy efficient. It costs too damn much because you also need to fix any cracks/issues before insulating, pay the proffesional who will rate the efficiency results and hope to get the subsidy by the end to maybe offset some costs.

It is better to just install solar panels to offset the electricity used in my opinion. As far as i know, cypriots dont heat/cool the whole house 24/7 anyway. If its apartment buildings forget about it lol. Owners barely maintain their apartments let alone maintain the whole building.

Btw, i will say this anecdotally as well. When i was getting quotes to insulate my flat rooftop, i asked the guy how would i know that the results worked and would allow me to get the subsity? I mean there are some stipulations that the insulation must have certain measurements before and after installation so that the result would be accepted for the subsidy. The guy (very well known, professional for many decades in cyprus) basically told me they would „cook“ the results to get the subsidy if it didnt meet the criteria. So as far as i am concerned, it isnt even half the buildings lacking energy efficiency, it might look so in the data but i wouldnt trust them for older (concrete) buildings at least it just a scam.

  4. My wife’s mum house in Nicosia – always hot in summer so we got someone to quote to insulate the house – they said 18k!
I mean makes sense to install new aircon and solar to run it for free!
