Ik vermoed slechte software die niet toelaat om een lege string te verzenden naar die borden.
Ik gebruik ook – voor een totale andere toepassing – software waar ik altijd een spatie moet ingeven in een verlicht veld dat nooit verplicht had mogen zijn.

If i am not mistaken, it’s just a placeholder for no text and the reason specifically for the asterisk (and not a letter and/or a hashtag or stuff like that) is that it is alphabetically the first symbol.

Funnily enough I’m driving through France right now and they had different electronic signs also showing just an asterisk.
The asterisk was much bigger tho.
