Only problem is that those Eurocity Directs run at the cost of one IC per hour between Brussels and Antwerp, and these ECDs can’t be travelled on with a domestic Belgian ticket.
So the trains that are accessible to domestic travelers on Belgium’s busiest train corridor will be fuller than ever before. TrainTramBus has already warned about this, and it remains to be seen what this new arrangement will look like in practice.
Eurostar youth starts at 24 € for Paris and 19€ for Amsterdam.
Looks promising indeed! I’m not sure about the prices to Amsterdam, it seems to me that they will make them fluctuate a lot more. Also, it doesn’t go to Amsterdam Centraal but only to Schiphol and Zuid, so you’re not going as far but there’s plenty of connections from these stations as well. And let’s see about those delays…
I’m very happy to see international trains getting competitive. I hadn’t heard of Ouigo. Hopefully Eurostar drops its prices in response, because getting to Paris in 1h22 is still incredible.
I just have to say I hate the idea of variable prices like that.
It feels stressful, incentivizing people to purchase things far away they might potentially not need, and punishing those who just found a slot with free time or something. It makes you check the thing multiple times, when the thing really should just be a service, existing, and that’s it.
Thank you SNCB and NS for not doing that (**NS offers discounts during low hours, that’s fine – it’s the same every day, predictably*). Please never do that.
Genk, which is already criminally underserved as a station in a 65k city and the closest station to at least 150k other people in Limburg loses its direct connection to the coast, and loses a decent connection to Ghent by adding 30 minutes to the trip.
Thanks NMBS.
Limburgers keep funding public transport for the rest of the country while getting fuck all in return.
