    1. Unfortunately, the mafia…. sorry, taxman wants his slice and there’s no way around it. This is how the taxman values your product and how much you must pay to receive it. Even if it was sent as a gift.

    2. It is a tax for importing a product from outside the European Union. Either you pay it or you will not receive the order.

You just need to pay for the taxes of importing the product here. As far as I know, you either pay it and collect your thing or don’t and say goodbye to it, but you’ll probably loose what you paid for it too.

I had to do this once for a safety razor I bought from UK, so I know how it feels 😑

    4. If you buy products from outside the EU you have to pay and that is here, in France, Germany, etc….The cosmetics would have to be so special to not find them in the EU

    5. No one is mentioning that most of the fee are processing fees by Correos.
You can directly pay it filling the paperwork from the Agencia tributaria and then send it to Correos

    6. It’s simple.

      You bought cosmetics worth 49,26€

You paid 20,35€ for the import, 4,86€ for the manipulation and 18€ for the actual customs inspection for importing cosmetics. All of this had 9,07€ VAT.

Funnily enough, I had this today. I ordered a book recently that I didn’t pay attention to where it was shipped from. The USA.

Correos knocked my door with it this morning and I had to pay €8.50. The value of the book was only shown as €3 on the customs form.

No idea why they bought it to the door, instead if sending a bill.

    8. You’ll have to pay the taxes either way, but can save the ~25€ by doing the import procedure yourself online and presenting the resultant certificate to the post office. Probably not worth the hassle tough.

    9. There is no way, either you pay or there is no product, it’s that simple.

    10. FYI an international shop can choose to pay the „IVA“ on your behalf if they’re registed wit the [Import One-Stop Shop Scheme (IOSS)](https://vat-one-stop-shop.ec.europa.eu/index_en). You’ll notice it when browsing Aliexpress for example, that now collects this tax on your behalf.

Otherwise, all items you BUY need you to pay for this. No matter how much, as soon as it is a commercial transaction, it is liable for „IVA“.

If it was a gift, sent by friends or family to you, below 45€ (including shipping on the calculation, what many people miss) then [in theory it should not require such payment](https://www.correos.es/es/es/atencion-al-cliente/informacion-aduanera/dua-importacion/importacion-en-peninsula-y-baleares/dua-simplificado) but other people on reddit regularly complain it actually does.
