We’re used to thinking of humanoid robots as autonomous beings, but there are other options. They could also be the embodied physical avatars of distant humans.

This opens up both good and bad possibilities. Remote locations could have humanoid robot search and rescue teams ready to spring into action as soon as distant humans connect to them. Great if people get lost or injured in wilderness locations.

On the negative side, it opens up more avenues for job offshoring in rich countries. Now you can think about building robot factories in high-wage countries and save on shipping goods, but hire all the people to operate the robots in poor countries.

Tele-robotics has existed for years. I cannot foresee a future where this happens on mass.
this only make sense for when skill operators are extremely rare such as brain surgeons and this is not going to be the future of car manufacturing
