Submission statement: China’s plan to build these shelters on the Moon is a possible glimpse into the future of space exploration. These shelters represent how we’ll need to rethink architecture and technology to adapt to life on the Moon. It’s a perfect example of futurology by anticipating the challenges of space habitation and how innovation will shape humanity’s future off Earth. Is China on to something here?
It doesn’t mention it here, but lots of previous details about the moon base mention these buildings being [underground in a lava tube](https://spacenews.com/china-is-taking-a-keen-interest-in-lava-tubes-as-possible-lunar-habitats/). There’s lots of advantages to building in lava tubes – they shield from radiation (a killer long-term on the lunar surface) and they have stable temperature environments.
The absolute best thing for space exploration is for China to start seriously building moon bases. Because then the USA and EU will also be forced to get off their asses and build moon bases.
