Fascinating confluence of Byzantine, Persian, and indigenous influences

It’s definitely among the most underrated churches in Armenia. There’s not that many churches in Armenia that are covered in Frescoes and churches in Armenia aren’t really known for their pictorial decorations like Georgian churches as an example (not to say that Armenians never used frescoes or mosaics to decorate churches, it just wasn’t used to the same extent as Byzantine or Georgian churches). It’s also unique to see all the Persian influences in decorations of the church considering that the church was built in the 1600’s at the height of Safavid rule in Armenia. I am glad that more people over time are recognizing this church!
