I don’t see anything German. Onion soup is a french dish from the 1800s (we eat onion soup here in Germany, but the roots are in France). But I hope your meal was delicious.
I don’t think that’s a Kaiserbrötchen, it looks like a Laugenbrötchen.
Tbf, the Germans didn’t invent the tee, so a bit of fuck up is fine (like the American pizza)
Well, the form looks okay for a Kaiser roll, seems ato be somewhat on the smallish side, but nothing inherently wrong with that. Definitely looks like a lye roll, though. Which are rather delicious without doubt, but not what I’d choose to go with a soup, at least not if you intend on dipping it in the soup (I’d personally prefer a roll without cheese on it for that, but it’s not like a bit of cheese will be to the detriment of the soup). Problem is that lye roll are really bad at soaking up soup, so that’s not really the best combo.
And yes, you’re right that onion soup is rather popular in Germany as well, but if you buy instant onion soup it will very often be labeled as French onion soup, so you may have missed the mark just a bit there. Wikipedia tells me there’s quite a few German varieties of onion soup as well, but most of them have some ingredients I’d consider rather peculiar, and I’m pretty sure I’ve never had any of those varieties. Just good old French onion soup…
But all in all not a bad try with random instant stuff from a Scottish supermarket, I’d say
