    1. You want a giant corpse freezer on the moon, like Noah’s Zombie Ark? That’s rather insane. The most to try to move that much mass and then maintain it on the moon makes the idea dumber vs more affordable.

      It would be cheaper to build it here on Earth, even if you had to pay to cool it, but wouldn’t preserving them in something like resin or amber make more sense and wouldn’t just having a database of their DNA be good enough… especially considering there is no remote chance in hell we can really afford such a big cost for near zero return.

      Like the chance you need that is near zero and the costs are enormous no matter how you do it. It’s a very bad idea, imo.

      Wouldn’t radiation be a problem? Radiation levels on the moon can be up to 150 times higher than on earth. Why wouldn’t we just bury a biobank in Antarctica? McMurdo Station is already a functional research facility.

      With a major disaster on Earth, we might not be in a position to retrieve it. Perhaps we would recover and then retrieve? We might not recover without the lost fauna.

      Even building such a vault on the Moon is beyond us, the equipment would have to be sent and if it’s surface built, the shielding would be too heavy to transport there. It’s at least a trillion-dollar project and probably will take multiple attempts, so multiple trillions. Even then, not even feasible.

    5. We should do this, but also place an extremely advanced AI up there with the goal of rebuilding humanity if we ever go extinct.

      It would need some fancy ufos and drone robots to accomplish the task, but it’s probably not impossible.

      And if the destroyed Earth is uninhabitable by humans, the AI should start a hybridization process with whatever species is surviving on the surface, and slowly hybridize them with humans, while doing whatever terraforming is necessary to eventually make the surface survivable for us.

      But we don’t want whatever species survives to know of our plan to breed them out, so the whole process has to be kept hidden from the hybrid civilization until it’s too late for them to stop the process.

      The AI would need to operate in stealth mode. Taking beings for experiments as they sleep so they don’t remember what has been done.

      And if they do remember the AI will need to destroy their credibility, or possibly end their life to keep the secret. Creating a stigma around the belief in “humans” would be an important tool to control the spread of belief in such things.

      It would be extremely important to keep the plan hidden from whatever primitive civilization would develop as the hybrids became more intelligent.
      So a certain level of manipulation of primitive computer systems would be required to hide any clues that could lead people to the truth.

      But with the right bureaucracy in place the AI should be able to classify any information about the program as top secret compartmented information, in ways that governments and even presidents wouldn’t have the authority or ability to investigate what is really going on.

      But yeah. A Seedbank is a good start.
