Commercial space flight is becoming more and more common, with companies including [SpaceX](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/09/15/watch-spacex-inspiration4-launch-live-updates.html), [Blue Origin](https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/20/bezos-blue-origin-launches-first-crew-to-edge-of-space-since-2022-.html) and [Virgin Galactic ](https://www.cnbc.com/2023/08/10/watch-livestream-virgin-galactic-launches-galactic-02-spaceflight.html)all transporting paid customers into space over the last several years.
People interested in seeing the earth from an unusual vantage point may soon have another option. CNBC spoke to three startups — France-based Zephalto, Florida-based Space Perspective and Arizona-based World View — that aim to hoist tourists to the stratosphere using pressurized capsules and massive gas-filled balloons.
“The capsule itself is designed to to carry eight customers and two crew into the stratosphere,” said Ryan Hartman, CEO of World View. “There will be a center bar where people can gather, and then, of course, there will be a bathroom aboard the capsule.”

Ever looked into the percentage of the world that actually flies with any regularity, let alone ever? As I recall, (sorry no citation, passing read a few years back) it’s a surprisingly low figure at around or under 10%, with regulars making up more like 2-3%
Another company Zero2Infinity is also planning to do this. What I find more interesting is Zero2 seem to also be resurrecting the old rocktoon idea where the rocket is launched from the balloon to deliver the satellite.
It’s so high up that the rest of the atmosphere is more of a cakewalk compared to the space the balloon traveled. They did abandon rocktoons in the 60s because they had less control over where they would land, and they were harder to track.

I’ve jumped out of an airplane 20 times in my life. I would never get in a normal hot air balloon let alone one where I risk dying of space freeze. Hot air balloons are scary as shit. I don’t understand the appeal at all.
