Ha! I was trying to buy car insurance years ago and for complicated yet boring reasons the car was in the UK but I lived here.

I finally managed to find an insurer who would do it, finally check “yes, also covers in Europe” and then I double check, “including Luxembourg for short trips?” as it’s they’d, understandably, been really insistent I couldn’t buy UK insurance and keep the car outside the UK.

The response was “oh, no, we don’t cover in Eastern Europe!”, I explained it’s right between France and Germany and was put on hold while they checked with their supervisor before I was eventually told I was ok for less than 28 days (presumably they found a map).
