Well obviously, a Finn will avoid all social contact possible.
They would have to make me quite an amazing offer for me to consider switching to a job that requires you to go to the office daily. Currently I go to the office 0-2 times / month.
This year I have been at the office ~five times and out of those five times two were parties. Not planning to go to offce for those same teams meetings I could take from couch at home.
I wish that became an enforced work right everywhere in Europe, part of human rights, work from wherever you please as long as you do your job
I love WFH. As a Finn can agree with this chart.
Been to the office once on this week. I mostly go there for the sake of a bicycle ride and good coffe there.
The way to go.
Started working from home when Covid hit, now only go to office for the company update (and free lunch) and to let them know I’m alive still as all my work is with another company that the company I work has a contract with.
I’ve been searching for a full remote job for over a year and a half now with no luck. I fucking hate going to the office 2x’s a week. I would happily take a pay cut for the freedom to work wherever I want.
Finland does have amazing internet and a work culture based on trust, so it makes sense.
Personally I go to the office every day even if there’s no requirement for me to ever show up because it’s a 20 minute bike ride away, I find it hard to concentrate at home, my colleagues are great, there’s AC, and the office has free snacks and drinks.
I work from home way too much. I’d like to go to office more, but it’s tough in the morning to get yourself to go drive in traffic when you don’t have to.
An ability to work from home is one of the silent things that separate well-educated city-people from bitter low-paid workers.
Well-educated city-dwellers at their homes consume water that has been cleaned by water system workers, eat food that has been produced by farmers and brought at their doors by a delivery worker, use electricity that come through wires built up by electricians.
Once a month they drive from Helsinki to a small town in Kainuu where their old parents live via a road built by road workers. The well-educated city-dweller meet their parents in an elders‘ home where practical nurses take care of them.
Then they will drive back to their studio apartment located in southern Helsinki. Mind you, they have to keep the society running with their bachelor of economics degree that has given them supernatural powers to create powerpoint slides filled with buzz words and sentences such as how to fight populism and how to beat climate change.
We don’t like our coworkers that much.
When I signed up for my job, they stressed that there is now WFH option. It’s 8-16, in the office, Mon-Fri. Job market being what it is, I was like „no problem!“ but damn if I don’t envy most my friends who work from home all but 1 day of the month!
All talking about Finland, but what about the irish folks? What is the story behind that?
Used to have a job where I could work from home over 90% of the time. Switched to one that I can do about 50% for a bit more money. Was not worth it
To me working from home still seems like a completely utopian dream. I’ve never
been even close to landing a wfh job in the past 10 years
