Submission statement:
A long form article that details the roll out of autonomous kill systems in a an active war. I think particularly not worthy is how check, scalable and attritable these system proved to be. Far from the robotic infantry envisioned in Sci-fi and the public imagination, these quadcopter drones and retrofitted machine gun turrets changing the role of infantry and armored assaults as we speak. Particularly impactful is how these technologies will mix with the lowered cost of drones and missiles, allowing them to be used by non state actors like the Houthis in Yemen, the RAF in Sudan or gangs in Haiti. I hope to encourage more dialogue on the subject because the deployment of this highly impactful technology has so far been greeted with little discussion or reflection.
