The issue is, those young men don’t believe the policies will disproportionately effect them. Remember a lot of these men think racism is dead and believe affirmative action is racist against white people. So they are more than willing to vote for someone who will enact policies they don’t think will effect them, because „they’re one of the good ones!“ then when it does effect them, they’ll blame democrats, per usual.

it’s the same with Log Cabin Republicans. And when the GOP is openly hatful to gay people, they don’t switch to democrat, they switch to Independent but still vote Republican, so they won’t get shit from their friends and family. Because when they switch to Independent they don’t have to answer for everything Republicans do/say. But they can still vote Republican.

All because they hate poor people more than they love themselves.
