How come? What’s significant about this meeting? I hope they have a reason to be this sour. I for one thought it is a regular meeting albeit in an unusual format.
It seems to me that Russian and Azeri intelligence never anticipated the chain of events which include the US Speaker’s visit to Armenia, the strengthening of French and Indian relations, the likelihood of EU candidacy status, and this very important upcoming meeting which demonstrates a western commitment to Armenian’s sovereignty. Conversely, Turkish intel seems to have gotten the memo, if Erdogan’s advice for Baku to play nice can be seen in context.
In hindsight, it’s apparent now that Moscow and Baku have been in cahoots since 2016 at the latest. The plan was to capture Artsakh collectively and use it as leverage to create a corridor in the Arax valley to evade sanctions on Russian trade, while destroying Armenian’s sovereignty in the process, using domestic instability. Maybe token Union State membership at best, but downgraded to Oblast if Yerevan was intransigent.
This plan seems to be at risk now, and that makes it a dangerous time. Aliyev still hasn’t paid his debt to Putin and the collection agency is calling.
Time to deliver some good ol American freedom to Azerbaijan

Their chip on their shoulder towards Armenia will never go away. They live in grievance. They got the land that they never needed and realized it was forty years of meaningless war. They see Armenia has basically moved on with its life instead of collapsing at their feet. And like a divorced ex seeing you with the hot new partner, they hate it because they see the problem was them all along.
