I think the spokes should be near horizontal
Is there a ring lower and closer to the wall you can hook the ends on?
Yeah, you did it wrong.
Put them back at the ring closest to the wall, lift the ~~pin~~ spoke up and rest it in the ring you moved the ~~pin~~ spoke to.
