I am so sorry that happened to you. Not sure if you are aware of the situation around that region, but people there are very cautious for any suspicious activity and could’ve mistaken you for a spy. That doesn’t justify what they did to you by no means and you should take appropriate measure if deemed necessary.

Please file the charges with the police, this is not acceptable. I’m sorry you had a bad experience like this.

All the fragile masculinity comments probably don’t understand the context of the situation in Syunik.

Not to excuse the beating of course, but here is context to the situation: Syunik is in Armenia proper but it is nesr the border, and it was actually hit multiple times in the last few years. I saw military encampments and the results of mortars with my own eyes, and I was told to not record and delete anything I had recorded or taken photos of.

So it isn’t just that folks think a random spy is strolling on a bike, but that there has been active military engagement in the region and it’s very fresh for the civilians and military. Any photo or video in the region is potentially useful for future military action.

Hopefully that helps with context of the situation, without excusing the behavior. I hope the rest of your journey is safe and memorable!

Op, you need to write a couple of paragraphs to explain what happened. Your short comments here and there are super confusing.

    7. Definitely unacceptable and I apologize on behalf, I’d like to add some context on top of others just so we can potentially guess what possibly led to this.

Since 2021, our neighbor Azerbaijan has been invading and occupying several parts of Armenian lands, their soldiers are sitting on several of our hills, that have bombed civilian towns as well for several times (such as Jermuk), and since then there has been instances where Azerbaijani soldiers secretly walked into Armenia and murdered an old man who was a night guard to a factory, that said there has been on many occasions where people in Armenia were bribed to record border army and weapon locations and send them to Azerbaijan, who were arrested, there is also a lot of disinformation that after the recent border delimitation in certain parts of Armenia Azerbaijani troops are walking into Armenia (even a video of one claiming to be in lake sevan), so with all of this happening, people are on the edge.

That said, of course there is no excuse to what happened, there is zero justification for attacking you before questioning you, and the others are nuts for joining in without understanding the situation, I guess that’s what happens when you’re on the edge, but again, not excusable. What i hate most about this is that they realized they were in the wrong and forced you to delete the video of them attacking you, knowing it is evidence against them. It is definitely in your right to report it to the police.

The more important question is, are you alright? do you have any injuries? any way we can help you?
