    1. Ech hoffen datt d’Beamten mat dës Petitioun gesi, wéi wichteg et d’Leit déi hei wunnen ass, Lëtzebuergesch als Integratiounsssprooch ze stellen.

    2. All good if this is positively encouraged and not negatively enforced. I teacher Luxembourgish and from experience: Luxembourgish is highly valuable for people planning to stay here or generally people who end up residing in the country side. Short stay professionals or people in the city actually have a hard time even encountering the language in the first place. I would love more presence in the public space to be given to Luxembourgish as one of the options. Currently it is mostly forgotten about or an afterthough depending on the setting

I don’t really understand what is meant by “language of integration”. Can anyone explain?

    4. Luxembourg would rather force everyone to learn French, only to then complain that nobody speaks Luxembourgish.

    5. I will gladly learn the language as soon as I master the French. Honestly just wished that my French colleagues who work here for decades would have the same enthusiasm about it instead of nagging everyone about us not speaking French. Sorry for the little vent but the country has its own language, I find it interesting and we should do it out of respect. Just my 2cents

    6. As a Luxembourger I am against this. I find it nice when foreigners learn our language but I don’t think that they should be required to do so. I think instead of making learning Luxembourgish mandatory, I think we should start making it a right to get a seat in a Luxembourgish class.

Currently INL Luxembourgish courses are sold out minutes after the registration opened. As long as this is the case, nobody can convince me that „foreigners refusing to learn Luxembourgish“ is a pressing issue that requires the government to step in. If these course would have empty seats year after year we could start this discussion but as long as this is not the case, I am just going to assume thar foreigners are giving their best.

    7. I don’t desagre with the principle, but I am curious on how they plan to enforce mandatory Luxembourgish courses for all residents.
I mean even now, getting into the Luxembourgish classes is like getting tickets for Oasis… Maybe they can pay Duolingo to finally add it…

    8. I’m a crossborderworker and I speak German, French and English and understand Luxembourgish. If it’s going to be mandatory, how should this be? Tests?

What a load of BS if I am understanding correctly that residence//work visa requires learning the language.

      1. For EU citizens, illegal
      2. For non EU, very problematic. Would be a huge barrier to recruiting talent
