In Europe data centers are hitting a roadblock. Microsoft has pulled out of Britain's largest data center project, as it can't be supplied with electricity until the 2030s.

Data centers are a curse not a blessing. They consume massive amounts of resources for barely any jobs created or taxes paid.

A rare bit of good news, the US and China can keep them for all I care. The UK simply doesn’t have the infrastructure for this, I’d much rather billions go on making our towns and cities more developed, cleaner and safer; alot of them are so run down it’s kinda embarrassing to be from here.

I would be fine with datacenters if they just lived up to a few things.

      * More efficient water cooling system so they don’t mess with public supply or cause environmental problems.

      * Fund as much expansion of energy production as they require to operate.

      * Do whatever it takes to reduce noise pollution to such a level that it doesn’t adversly affect nearby residents or wildlife.

Right now they don’t live up to ANY of those things, and they expect someone else to foot the bill (such as paying more for electricity), as if we’re somehow beholden to them. As if they’re doing us a favor building these datacenters.
