Self sabotage by Spotify. If I have to do this more than once for my kids that live at home Im shutting it down.

I don’t know why people put up with this shit. So few people are willing to boycott even the slightest, most frivolous „luxury“. It’s why streaming costs more than cable, and why McDonald’s costs more than sit-down restaurants

I travel often and I’m so close to canceling Netflix because they constantly pester about re-authenticating.

With Spotify, I’m already wondering if it’s really worthwhile. If they start pestering then it will time to try Apple Music.

Well well well, looks like we are going back to the 2000s Spotify

    5. Miserable-Half-436 on

Last time netflix does this I cut it completely. If Spotify does this,😊 they can kiss good bye my money

    6. If I hadn’t already left Spotify a year ago, I would be pretty upset. Navidrome is awesome.

What are all of your favorite Spotify alternatives? Especially ones that respect privacy and artists?

I get Youtube music included in my Premium subscription so I’ll use that. Pretty sure I get music with Prime as well. Sure they’ll lose what they consider a non-paying customer, but there’s better options out there than Spotify. i bet a lot of these users are already paying for one of their competitors like me.

the 12 month restriction sounds way worse when its called a ban. spotify isn’t banning the whole account. its stopping people from joining a different family or duo plan if verification fails. still the qr code requirement could be annoying for families who actually live together but aren’t always home at the same time. 7 days to complete it seems a bit harsh if someone is traveling.

    10. Sounds great for screwing over College students who aren’t in the household but are still a part of the family.

Sounds like Spotify needs to be kicked out of the house.

Why the fuck do they care?? Sprint doesn’t make you do this shit. Why the fuck do they want to destroy their business with this move? Im paying for my family plan and if this happens I’ll just drop it in favor of another service that isn’t a complete fucking piece of shit.

For those who dropped shitify, what’s the next best platform?

    12. My old iPhone 12 made a most excellent mp3 player after upgrading. Super easy to transfer music files to it with foobar

The only reason I haven’t left Spotify for Apple Music is because of the family plan. I’ll finally have a reason to ditch it with a reason my family will understand.

    14. I am ao sick of reauthenticating things. I don’t even travel or share accounts and I have to reauthenticated weekly for apps like Netflix, HBOMax, Hulu and Disney+. It’s extremely annoying and pushing me towards cancelling.

    15. Spotify is not worth additional effort I went to yt music years ago and never looked back

If Spotify would pay artists fairly i would think about paying them fairly

    17. Quarterly price hikes, AI generated bullshit, the list goes on and on…

Fuck YOU Spotify… I’m through with you

    18. Anomynoms13 on

Wait, they want to ban their own customers?
Bold strategy, let’s see how it plays out…

    19. Not ideal but you could get on a zoom call and have the family manager show their dynamic QR code.

If they actually pay attention to location, Android users can just spoof it. iOS users might be screwed.

But regardless this is motivation to look at alternatives to Spotify.

    20. i walked away from netflix after using them for 18 years over stupid policies

      SpotIfy can FAFO

    21. Since when did families all live on one house? Young kids don’t need an account. Older kids leave home so they’re basically saying your family needs to be kids around 13 to 18.

Fuck em. See ye on the high seas mateys

    22. -FurdTurgeson- on

So I can’t have my mom who doesn’t live with me on my family plan any more? Wtf

    23. Oh boy, another service that’s going to screw me over because I’m the one who travels all the time. First Netflix, now Spotify

    24. RandyTheFool on

I just came back from a 12 day work trip. Are you saying I would have been absolutely fucked had a QR code popped up when I left?

      Spotify’s yearly revenue is…

      # $20.89 BILLION DOLLARS.

Like how weirdly obsessive, greedy, and just outright fucking punching-down mean. They’re gonna be fine if a handful of people shared a fucking account. Fucksake, guys. Yearly revenue in the fucking billions and you’re going to just alienate your entire user base for a couple more bucks.

    25. Sooooo what happens when I’m on vacation with my wife for more than 7 days and my kids are back at home….

    26. Well.

Everyone here is your chance to move to Tidal. 6 “family members”Including yourself. You and 5 people.

      Apple Music is good too.

Just went to TIDAL originally for the uncompressed flac files/lossless files…..and had both Spotify and Tidal for a while. Cancelled Spotify.

I’ve got 5 separate people that are ALL over the place. Not a single one lives in my home permanently. All are states away. If you run out of space for the free playlist transfer service?

You can use [https://soundiiz.com/](https://soundiiz.com/) or other alternatives

    27. retro_ditto on

Enjoying Tidal for 4th year. Family plan costs 22e for 6 accounts. Less than 4 euros per family member. And we live all around Finland enjoying lossless music. UI is not perfect (artists with same names sometimes get bundled into one) but there is a small icon which tells if song is AI so I know to avoid them.

    28. CandyKnockout on

This is going to really confuse my father-in-law when he tries to listen to his playlist of 40 songs the next time he’s in the car. I can hear the phone call now. “Yeah, it says you have to scan something and you only have a few seconds and I don’t know what any of it means.”

    29. Appropriate_Ad8734 on

i get the need to push for higher revenues, but “year long ban” is bloody fucking ridiculous and this will only piss off users and get them to go with apple music instead
