*but wont hand out the prompts to do it or point at git repos. Also Claude is pretty stupid about this when asked. And **** some tvs might have firmware preventing it. And it may have just used an existing git repo to do it and nothing to do with LLMs.
Someone please prove me wrong I really would like to update the menus on multiple models.

Microsoft, Adobe, now Samsung et al, etc…

There’s going to be a big dust-up in the coming months because AI in the hands of little people is starting to affect the bottom line of big players.

Adopt AI!! No, not like that though.

I look forward to the battles ahead.

    3. How dare they let me control what’s on my TV I kinda buy from a billion dollar megacorp!!! /s

    4. I love how the people are using AI to fight back against corporate enshitification.

AI sucks, but I love that we’re fighting fire with fire.

    5. I turned off the network on my CX a year ago and it’s still fine. I have external devices connected that are all updated as needed. The tv is just a monitor at this point

If you’re able to do so, set up Pi-hole or Adguard Home to block ads, tracking and malware on a network level. You can do it on just a Raspberry Pi if you have one sitting around, on some NAS boxes, or even directly on your router if you have a more powerful one. You won’t need to install anything on your devices, and you can control network traffic from a centralised UI.

I keep my TV’s in basic mode without ever connecting to WiFi and I will use an external device to watch tv/movies. I know my external devices are also building a profile on me, but at least they aren’t recording everything I say (I hope not, at least).

    8. I bought a fancy LG smart tv from Costco and thought for sure I’d be able to access a setting to get it to display art when idle…. Nope. Have to pay for a subscription service. Can’t even purchase art from their store à la carte. Have to SUBSCRIBE. When is AI coming for that?

    9. My firecubes basically got hardly anything from amazon left. I use it for Kodi and psx emulation mostly.

At this point i’m back to home theatre PC and no internet on the TVs. Desktop PC is Much faster and doesn’t rely on poorly supported apps riddled with bugs and tracking/advertising you to death.

The next big thing I see on the horizon is the tech bros somehow think they’re owed a piece of the pie for a vibe-coded app and trying to take a percentage. Mark my words.

    12. The Sony I got 5 years ago, which gets update, doesn’t show a lot ads. The UI is still pretty responsive.

Went to buddys house that has a newer samsung Tv…100 inches. Every keystone on the remote had half a second delay and constant ads playing with ease. I would have returned it

    13. Never give your TV internet! Get an AppleTV or if you can not afford one, get an Onn 4K

Who would have thought… The « bad actors » are using it 🤣 That was totally unpredictable 🤣

Why do I get the feeling this whole article is AI

    16. FALCUNPAWNCH on

Neither of the „AI“ projects listed in the article are doing anything new. Disabling apps and telemetry over ADB is nothing new, and you can install an alternate launcher on Android TV entirely through the TV UI without any developer tools. This article is a nothingburger, and wrapping Android TV decluttering software we’ve had for years in an unnecessary AI coat of paint isn’t revolutionary.

    17. And here I was using a screwdriver.

I’ve only ever had 1 Smart TV, because there literally weren’t any non-smart options available. And the “smart” was an easily accessible board that I removed in 5 minutes.

It was connected to a cheap Roku for a while, until I built a dedicated HTPC.

the fact that we need AI to undo what AI put there in the first place is the most accurate summary of the tech industry I’ve seen this year

This is encouraging, but it also reminds me of how quickly Facebook adapted to the Apple tracking opt-out from a couple years ago.

Also, I feel like these companies will start building tracking into their terms of service and if you break their ads/data harvesting, your device will stop working.

    20. I see people on youtube cheering and praising these hackers using ai to reverse engineer Adobe, jailbreak the ps5 and such.

But I really don’t have a good feeling about all this, the trillioneer corporations are not going to just take this. I fear some heavy handed regulations are coming soon.
