In a major setback for the kingdom’s economic ambitions, [Saudi Arabia has canceled a major conference](https://www.cnn.com/2026/10/19/economy/saudi-arabia-cancels-investment-conference-houthi-attacks?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=missions&utm_source=reddit) scheduled for next week in Riyadh amid a wave of attacks by Iran-backed Houthi militants.
Known as “Davos in the Desert,” the Future Investment Initiative will now take place on an undisclosed date in 2027, according to a statement from the conference shared via email with CNN’s Becky Anderson.
Normally, the annual event showcases Saudi Arabia’s financial muscle and growing role on the world stage. Wall Street leaders including JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, Citigroup CEO Jane Fraser, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon and BlackRock boss Larry Fink were all scheduled to speak at next week’s event.
>The cancellation of this year’s event is a blow to Saudi Arabia’s efforts to diversify the oil-rich country’s economy away from oil and natural gas.
Live by the Saud, die by the sword. I wonder if MBS kept his receipts to get a refund on his Kushner bribes
I’m always amazed at the incompetence of SA, how can you be so rich and have “formidable” army (at least on paper) and fail so badly at taking care of a paramilitary group in a tiny country next to you?
Who would win?
1. Rich nation with a modern high tech military.
2. Some spicy rebels on a few dozen technicals.
To understand how bad of a situation Saudi is in, they are asking Pakistan for help 😆
This is the consequence of a country with a military designed to protect the monarchy rather than its sovereignty.
You know what weird, WWE still planning on doing an event in KSA in November.
Really struggling to see how they can when something like this won’t be going ahead.
