Population decline will accelerate due to violence and the current economic crisis among the youth

Plus, and let’s be real here, young people are the least interested in making romantic connections than ever before.

    2. Drop all the drama about ‚our youth dying‘, that isn’t the issue. Youth mortality is lower than it has ever been and your statement is a morality that echoes around the chambers of Reddit but does not bear out in statistics. It is an angst inducer we don’t need.
What we do need to be clear about is that our society has become one where it is almost hostile towards young parents. If there is one reason for that, it is that with increased career opportunities for women, prices for things like housing and childcare have exploded. As a result we see the demographic bell-curve shift across huge swathes of Europe and the US, fewer people to look after more elderly people, but no real scope to do that in family setting and a reliance on the state.

Those states are becoming poorer every day as a result and that is now being manipulated by self-interested politicians all over the world who somehow claim ‚everything will be better if [insert populist statement].

We need to rethink what modern society is. And it is a debate that ‚the people‘ need to have, not the tech bros or even the current politicians. But answers are difficult to find and that is why the riots in Europe are expanding and becoming more intense.

I say this as someone in their 20s, the „youth dying“ is a laughably ridiculous statement to make. Yes the youth is dying so much that we have 8 billion people on this planet. There was a point in time where the entire human population was less than the population of a single country. That wasn’t even that long ago either.

    4. I don’t think violence has much to do with it. Overall rates are down however there’s an increase in suicide and substance abuse deaths. Depression and anxiety are way up, this is due to remnants from COVID as well as a continued cost of living crisis.

Despite decent efforts there is still a tremendous amount of stigma when it comes to „invisible“ disabilities. There’s also a lack of funding when it comes to support for said disabilities. The whole thing is a circus.

On top of that, general wealth is concentrated at the very top and still somehow being hoarded by older generations. Less than half of Millennials even own a home. It’s bleak.

Most people live paycheck to paycheck (if they’re lucky) and an alarming amount of people are one unexpected bill away from financial ruin. A significant amount of people have no savings and a worrying amount have debt. There is immense insecurity/instability.

It’s not all about money either. There used to be support for parents from not just family, but the community as well. That has since evaporated. Raising kids is harder and more expensive.

This is without addressing the elephant in the room that is AI. I think that is going to do a lot of damage to education systems as well as future job prospects. It’s a wildcard and the training wheels are falling off.

It’s going to be very interesting to see what South Korea and Japan do to counter their heavily declining birth rates. I assume the West will follow if they find a solution.

Maybe people here clearly getting their ideas and understand explicitly from pop culture nonsense.

The cost of living and pricing is *not* why many places are experiencing population decline, as the data shows. Neither is violence, disease or especially not the „gutting of social security nets“. A problem can’t be fixed unless you identify the cause first, and people constantly parroting the same nonsense to virtue signal in a circlejerk, like you are doing OP, are part of the problem.

The birth rate has fallen rapidly because the costs of raising a child have skyrocketed. There is a very strong correlation between costs of having a child and the birth rate. I think this has happened due to:

      > overpopulation
      > mass importation of immigrants
      > out of control taxes and regulations
      > massive corruption by most governments

I’m a millennial and I am always grateful I was wise enough not to have kids. Seeing how things are now, definitely content with my decision. That doesn’t mean I don’t sympathize with those that did and their poor kids, of course.

    8. The people running this world got it so that mammals don’t want to reproduce. Then they turn around and complain about birth rates as if they didn’t cause this. They are either very stupid or we are getting gaslit hard

    9. As a whole (human race) we should shrink if we want a better future. But the drop you are talking off is not the reality as we are still expanding every year still and not declining.

More than you think, models published in the 80s were predicting a 97% plus decline in humanity by the end of this century.

If you have not planned around those, then it could be an issue.

We can save the young people or we can make boomers comfortable. Which one of those choices means that civilization get to continue? Which do you think boomers are going to vote for?

    12. Good. There’s an overpopulation of humans. You’d be an idiot to think otherwise.

    13. WaterProfessional535 on

That’s great. The only way human or the ecosystem won’t collapse is human population less than 2.5 billions.

    14. SirFluffymuffin on

On top of cost of living and everything else people mentioned, there has to be some part of it that is just young people looking at the news and seeing all of those issues that others mentioned getting worse or ignored, and have just decided to say fuck it and refuse to participate. Why have a child when you can’t afford to live as an adult? Why go out on dates when things are too expensive and there’s no where to go out to? Why bother trying when all of these things are stacked against you and seemingly do nothing but add long term stress and expense and you’re barely going as it is? Why bother with any of these long term hypotheticals when the world seems to be run by morons who seem to not be able to guarantee there’s going to be a planet to live on for any hypothetical kids?

It doesn’t even matter if any of those things are actually happening, as long as enough people believe it is then them deciding to just refuse to participate will have effects downstream.

That’s honestly where I’m at. I have zero faith in humanity and refuse to participate in creating a next generation(assuming I ever get past the whole dating thing first). I don’t care what statistics you throw at me to try to convince me things aren’t a dumpster fire, and even if things did seem to get better I have no faith it will stay that way

What the fuck am I just reading. And the comments. Losers trying to justify why they don’t have kids lol

    16. Google „most important video you will ever see“ and watch a math professor explain the concept of doubling times as it relates to money and population

    17. Isn’t this good since AI is taking all the jobs and there are no houses to buy?

F that noise, take the white pill. People have never been more materially wealthy. The Guardian peddles nothing but doom every day.
