Was? Wirklich?

Switzerland has much higher quality standards for Ibuprofen and other OTC drugs.

Swiss drug prices are a massive scam. I come from France where prices are sometimes 10 times lower than here for the exact same drug. It’s ridiculous.
Most things are like that in Switzerland. Groceries, eating out, haircuts, rent.
Infos on market price development for generics/biosimilars are publicly available.
While I agree with certain ‚complaints‘ and the matter of overpricing, I am sick of the daily „x is cheaper in Germany“.
Yes, it’s called economy and comparisons between two countries with very different financial and economic circumstances are nil.
I hope you’ll be as happy when your job gets shipped off to a lower-cost location too.
The reason is really that people eat it like candy, so the policy here is to make it less available on purpose. In other words they don’t necessarily *want* you to buy it, if that makes sense. Also Melatonin is a hormone and sanctioned by Swissmedic Abgabekategorie B, so it’s by definiton a drug and not a supplement. I don’t make the rules.
I was working for a company which was selling 10,000 mcg of biotin for more than 100 CHF per month supply.
One can buy hundreds of 10k mcg pills of biotin online, Amazon or similar for a few dollars a month.
They were doing a bang up business of it. There’s enough people here who seem not to care that they are raked over the coals.
Lol even that’s expensive. In Canada, you can get 400 capsules for ~15CAD (9chf)
Melatonin is also something that I buy in Germany. I do not pay an insane CHF 200 out of my pocket for 30 pills if I can have them in Germany for only €5.
I remember a time when 20 Aspirin tabs were 8 EUR in Germany and in Istanbul sold at 0.75 cent. Else the machine cleaner for the dish washer was sold at 1 EUR in Germany and around 4 CHF in Switzerland.
20 pack in the Netherlands bellow 1 euro
Maybe someone should come along and impose „most favoured nation“ status to get them to lower the price?
I agree. Paracetamol / Ibuprofen prices in Switzerland are out of this world, especially if you compare to the pricing in other parts of Europe.
My condolences, you got absolutely ripped off in Germany. You paid €0.12 per 400mg tablet, or €0.06 per 200mg.
In the UK it is £0.35 for 16 x 200mg tablets at Tesco. That is £0.021, or €0.026 in today’s exchange rate, per 200mg. Literally, less than half of what you paid at Jestetten.

It’s the only thing I consistently come home with from border shopping: Minimum 200 x 400mg ibuprofen. The price here is just so unbelievably absurd
Oh my god you paid 8€ for ibuprofen, hope you are alright… wait till you start byuing groceries 😅
in NYC (which is an expensive city) I bought a bottle of 500 x 200mg capsules, for like 12$
We get fucked so much here by these prices
In my country, 1 capsule of ibuprofen 200mg is just 0.11 swiss franc/0.099 euros.
Swiss is a scam. But that’s something we know already. Those who don’t will get the new insurance premium for the next year.
I get the outrage over small package prices but:
Ibuprofen 400 mg 100 pack is CHF 17.

Oh yes but these cheap German drugs actually give you headache, while Swiss domestic ones work even when you just hang them by the cheminée.
This is what I stock up on when I’m back in the States, it cost around $10… the cost of over-the-counter medicines in Switzerland is insane.

You can buy Ibu even in Amazon for less than 8€/50 pc and ship it to your door.
But you gotta pay for the Schweizer Qualitat /s
What do you think the consequence of a high general level of salaries is? Products for daily living also cost more. Be content with the German salary for your job and paying 8.7% of your gross salary into health insurance and move there 😉
Just FYI, some products in the supermarket now cost THE SAME in Germany and Switzerland, so bad was their inflation in recent years, meanwhile they make half the salary we do.
Also FYI, Melatonin is NOT a supplement like iron or zinc. It‘s a hormone and therefore definitely medication. You also don‘t get thyroid hormones without a prescription.
I paid 40 Rappen for a Cortison Creme in Hurghada…
Es isch ganz eifach: Kei Chopfweh, kei Problem.
Try to buy a house now
Ohhh wow you saved 10.- congratulations.
I would urge you to reconsider your stance on Melatonin. It isn’t a supplement it is a hormone.
Full disclosure I also took it for a few years and it also helped me.
However, you really aren’t supposed to take it over long periods of time. Here is a study from 2026 that at least shows a very strong correlation between 12+ months of melatonin use and heart failure:
[https://newsroom.heart.org/news/long-term-use-of-melatonin-supplements-to-support-sleep-may-have-negative-health-effects](https://newsroom.heart.org/news/long-term-use-of-melatonin-supplements-to-support-sleep-may-have-negative-health-effects)
It isn’t enough to prove causality but it certainly warrants being mindful of using it over prolonged periods.
