Good for them? I think it’s because many men get used to having someone at home doing chores, cleaning up after them etc. At some point women have enough and leave, meanwhile a guy would have preferred to have a comfy life continuing doing nothing. Of course not everyone, but somehow it doesn’t suprise me

    2. Good. They deserve freedom after a lifetime of serving and tending to their emotionally absent husbands who work 12 hours a day.

Edit: To those misunderstanding or triggered, I am divorced from a long hours-working Japanese husband. I was also working full time, mind, not “chilling”.
There is nothing more lonely and soul draining than your husband choosing work over you and your kids, and basically saying that providing financially is him being a parent, whereas I was providing income AND actually parenting AND doing the entire household load.

I think a lot of them never really loved their spouse anyways. Arranged marriages were very common until things started to change in the 80s.

A less than happy marriage might function while the husband is out at work all day. Once they retire and spend all day at home expecting the wife to act as a maid 24/7…. Not so much.

No shit, Sherlock! The man got a free mom out of the deal whilst the woman got shafted. No benefit at all to taking care of a man who doesn’t know how to cook or clean.

How many were the results of finding out the husband is frequenting soaplands and „snack“ bars after spending the day at pachinko? 😅

    7. After retiring, alot of my friend’s parents (also mine) continue the dynamic where wife is a domestic slave who does everything, and husband does nothing but watch TV and complaints about dinner. The men often don’t step up to contribute to the house. Why should their wives stick around to cater to man who doesn’t offer anything in return until one of them dies?

I’m not surprised. Women have a lot more to gain in life by getting divorced if their husbands are like this.

    11. Will that increase the current 6 years of life expectancy gap between genders in Japan?

So what you’re saying is, there are a lot of Japanese divorcees just hangin around the yakisoba shops waiting on a new beau to come in and sweep them off their feet? Hold on, gotta see if my passport is still valid. Nope. Damn it.

by that time, the husband either has no libido left, or is seeing a younger woman because he can’t stand his wife. Same how they abandon pets cuz they no longer tiny and cute. There is a pattern.

**No credit for past benefits:** Past benefits provided by a man do not guarantee a continued or future relationship.

**Void trade agreements:** Any arrangement where a man provides a current benefit in exchange for a promise of a future association or return becomes null and void the moment the man provides the benefit

Like in everywhere else that’s why alimony is an organized theft against men

But also one thing Japan is getting right is avoiding the two income trap. Both parents getting jobs and moving their lifestyle up to a level that when one fails the whole system collapses.

It is economically smarter and cheaper for men to reject marriage and LTR commitment to women.

      Instead:

1)flirt your life and save/spend your money and time as you see fit

2)stay single and enjoy ladies companies (ONS, hookers, girl bars, soap lands, delihuru, etc) = much cheaper than marriage contract

      3) less headache and drama

      4) fucking total freedom to do whatever you want with your new AI sex doll 😆

      Until end of times…

Well it’s not really a surprise, globally women initiate most divorces. But in Japan with this specific kind of divorce, yeah it’s even more unsurprising. The standard for decades and still today is the husband works and the wife stays at home and deals with the family and household.

A salaryman basically lives at work and visits home to eat and sleep. With the husband gone for basically 12+ hours a day and barely any time off from work, add 30-40 years to this routine and it becomes two roommates who decided to cohabit together. The upside is although their husbands essentially became a stranger, at least they were bringing in an income to make up for it. But once they retire, the wife now has to deal with a man who for decades she barely spent extended periods of time with and now she has to be around someone who she basically learned to live without their existence apart from the income. Add in that factor and now he no longer brings home a salary, she now sees him as a useless stranger who adds nothing to her life in old age.

Like most countries globally, divorces work primarily in favour of women and in Japan, men are required to give up the home, a portion of their salary and as well as their retirement savings too. So all around, in this route, a woman can basically keep up the routine she’s become accustomed to but this time cut all ties with her husband and her former husband just lives the last 30 years of their life in some apartment living on meagre savings like he did as a salaryman but now fully lost in his life as he now has little to no friends, family or hobbies as work was his entire existence.

So depending on how you view it, as a woman she finally got rid of the deadweight in her life. As a man, you either think the husband deserves it, feel sorry for him because he’s dealing with this at an old age especially, or view it as a reason as to why marriage has no benefit to a man.
