I love it 🇱🇻❤️🇹🇷
Thanks
Interesting culture, terrible government. Generally very friendly people, except for when I was in Istanbul and every street vendor treated me like a walking ATM.
Can’t say i have anything bad to say. Probably the best muslim country to visit these days as well
Turkey has the most easily offended people in the world. And an asshole leader.
prob more positive than neutral for most ppl as its seen as an exotic holiday destination just like italy.
about the governemt and turkish 2 faced or „flexible“ foreign politics, 95% of people dont give a single shit about it irl or dont even know how you operate. however you might get negative comments here about it bc this is reddit and redditors are quite autistic compared to general population, so they dont represent the views of most ppl
We don’t have enough exposure to Turks to have much of an opinion
Your love for cats is admirable.
Can’t say much about your people as I have no exposure to them, did go on a few holidays there, that was nice, not a fan of your government, seems like they are trying to play both sides (ally with Nato and rusnya) and I can not trust someone that wants to be friends with rusnya.
I am a Turkish Latvian. I think overall view of Turkey amongst Latvians have improved a lot in the last 10 years. But Erdogan kinda kills any real truly positive opinion.
It also doesnt help that Turkish people have such a short temper and dont wanna hear any criticism or opinions that differ from what they believe in.
Great place to visit, delicious cuisine, rich culture, the name doesn’t work in English and it annoys me, bit of an authoritarian goverment which does get noticed here, also, militarly it’s not an ally I’d trust 100%, as they almost blocked Sweden’s ascension to NATO because of pretty much racism to Kurds (I understand wanting to extradite terrorist organizations but I seriously doubt all of them were terrorists).
Istanbul is a place I’ve visited a couple times now and I love walking around back alleys near Istiklal. The airport is a hell – it is possibly the most expensive airport I’ve visited and it is so far away from anywhere in the city and traveling to the center requires about 2-3 transports and at least an hour, which is not great when you’re jetlagged. Also, wtf is with the planes being so slow to disembark after landing, it often takes 30 minutes between touching the ground and finally stopping at a gate.
To end on a more positive note, everytime I visit Istanbul is a good time. It usually means the holidays have started and it often is a stopover to a place far away that I’ve been waiting to visit for a long time. That’s why everytime I’m there, I am bursting with excitement (although maybe less so when it’s a stopover back home).
I have quite a few Turkish colleagues at my current workplace, and they’re all really kind and pleasant to talk to. I’ve never had a bad experience with any of them. There are also quite a lot of Turkish students studying at Latvian universities. That said, I don’t think Latvians have particularly strong opinions about Turkish people or think about Turkey all that much. I think many Latvians mainly see Turkey as a holiday destination.
Personally, I think that they changed the name to Türkiye to not be associated with Turkey like the animal
Istanbul or Constantinople?
Large country with vast spaces of nothing? Like rocks and stuff. I’ve never met any real Turk, just few Kurds, but they never said where they’re from, kept repeating Kurdistan. Ok, buddy.
Black haired people with big eyebrows and probably a moustache with a paint brush like styled hair. Terrible football fans, often hear about them assaulting somebody. Great cuisine. I’d actually like a kebab right now.
Religion – I don’t know how many really are affected by the chains of religion, but I imagine that newer generation call themselves religious on the paper, just to have elders satisfied. But overall I’d think that everybody is walking around with hidden body parts, because whatever the rules are.
Politics are a bit in shambles due to being abused by one dude and unable to get rid of him. Do Turks even want a democracy? I don’t know.
Overall, I view them as southern Balkan people. Smiley, sometimes annoying, but impossible to not respect. Keep in mind – I’ve never been there and never met any Turk. These are my first impressions if I hear Turkey or Turkiye, I have no idea how to call it and why the name change, but whatever, you do you.
For some reason i hate Turkey with everything i have and i geniuenly don’t know why they pmo so much.
You like cats. And cats like you, which says something about human quality!
Neutrally, leaning in to negative. Due to political and also there are some religious things I disagree with. For example they bit too much support russia. There are also some extremist groups. In general I do not dislike Turkiye, it’s ok, rather we are just bit too far in some aspects. One of those countries I lean in to not visiting as tourist, mostly due to safety reasons. There is place to grow.
Honestly I don’t think I ever met Turkish people that close, so I can’t really answer that, but I heard that they tend to be welcoming of guests. Some can be serious and even harsh. Also arts, plates, carpets, cats, tea.
Probably vast majority Turkish people doesn’t know where Latvia is, they may think it’s just one of those ex-soviet countries.
First off, asking the entire world to write „Türkiye“ instead of Turkey is insanity, why would I write in a foreign language for 1 word out of a sentence?
But generally I like Turkey and Turks, they’re chill people, don’t always agree with your internal politics, but that’s for you to decide anyways, not me. Haven’t had a bad experience with Turks.
Thank you for guarding our skies and being good allies to us, also you have some amazing food.
Dude educate yourself before you come here fighting for your ‚truths‘. Ofc no one outside Turkey knows how it actually is…
Great country. Beautiful nature, weather, history and people.
Turkish people were kind and always gave us genuine smiles and wishes. No way a cashier would give my child something for free in a Narvesen-like store in Latvia.
The further from tourist zones you go, the better it gets. In them you may be seen as just a cash-cow, but that’s to be expected.
If a Turkish person ever happens to need my help here in Latvia, I’m willing to go extra out of my way to help them.
It’s alright.
