„at risk“ Coca Cola have been trying to sell it for a few years now.
This is what their big corporate daddy wants to do.

I mean, what is Costa Coffee’s defining feature compared to every other chain coffee shop? It’s red?
HotelPuzzleheaded654 on
Greggs being the UK’s biggest coffee chain has to be a recession indicator.
OkConsequence1498 on
It’s probably the worst coffee chain. Its coffee is very poor, its food is awful. At least Starbucks has their milkshake thing going on.
It’s a crowded market and it’s hardly a surprise if the least competitive chain fails.

Costa has been crap for years. It’s far poorer than both Nero and Starbucks and is overpriced. Coca-Cola wrecked it.

To each their own, but I don’t get the Greggs love. Everything I have eaten from there was slimy and cold, and the drinks bottles never close properly so you have to down it or risk it spilling in your bag / carry it around till you finish.

I avoid Greggs because of this.
I only want a sausage roll, I don’t want to wait in a line for 10 mins while people get a coffee
forzafoggia85 on
The issue, for me anyway, is costa has no other reason to go in there, the food is overpriced and worse quality than its competitors. Probably their main market value is from the machines in Tesco etc

Greggs coffee is bad
But I’ll take it over Costa all the time
Costa is dogger

I walked into Costa the other day and was surprised when they told me £5 for a large latte. Safe to say I walked into the Greggs across the street and got a coffee a little over £3. It’s not hard to see why people are choosing Greggs even though their coffee is not that great

Both could go under and nothing of value would be lost

It seems absolutely insane to me that these megacorporation chains that shut out all of the independent businesses fold as soon as they are no longer the biggest/projected for infinite growth

I really like Greggs coffee tbh! I think the value of it is a factor too.
Costa coffee is overpriced and tastes like dishwater. Would never go to Starbucks and cafe Nero is so si

4 factories closing with 740 jobs going. Greggs days are numbered.

Surprised that hasn’t happened sooner honestly. The age of cheap coffee is almost certainly over – inflation, increased transport costs, climate change etc.
Chains will deminish the quality of their product while passing along increased operating costs to consumers who aren’t willing to pay it. And high street cafes work on volume; they need to sell hundreds of drinks a day to stay afloat.
Every single city in the country and most towns have independent speciality coffee shops within a couple of minutes walk of a Costa – for the marginal increase in price with a significant increase in quality, you’re much better off giving them your custom.

Last time I went into a Costa a Latte with oat milk was like… £4.50? Anyone paying that on a daily basis for a shit coffee needs their head examined.

Coffee and bacon roll for £3.95 at Gregg. Probably cost you near to £10 in Costa

Greggs coffee is the most disgusting sock juice you could possibly taste

Costa is just too expensive for the quality you receive.

I really like the costa hot chocolate. Not how they make it in store, but I buy the powder at sainsburys. Ive not tried the alternatives in a while to be fair but I find the costa 1 to have more of a chocolately flavour without getting artificially sweeter (which is why i cant stand the Cadburys).
I’ll be sad to have to shop around again tbh but I do understand why they’re failing. 1 thing no1 here is talking about is I’ve e never had a consistent coffee from their either. The same order varies in strength wildly seemingly based entirely on person who makes it.

All coffee chains have the same shit, completely burned out, ashtray flavour coffee.

My biggest question is…. is Gregg’s a coffee chain now?
TheObrien on
It’s also really crap coffee, made inconsistently (and generally poorly) with over priced cakes and snacks…
Perhaps, just perhaps, if they refocused on being a high quality coffee shop, making great quality drinks people would come back…

Seriously? I would have thought McDonald’s would have won this one, considering their coffee is better than Costa and Greggs, and cheaper too. Their food is shite, but the coffee is one thing I actually like
Jimi-K-101 on
My town has a Greggs and costa right next to eachother. In the mornings Greggs does a bacon roll and coffee for £2.85. Costa do the same deal for £6.49. More than double the price!!
I’ve had both and I actually preferred the Greggs bacon roll. I don’t think I could really tell the coffee apart.
pezholio on
Probably the lowest tier of all the high street coffee chains. And they’re all pretty dire
lightfoot90 on
Greggs coffee is literally just a coffee machine that the staff press a button on.
It’s cheaper than Costa. It’s alright, more of an on-the-go coffee than a sit down sort of thing.

Greggs being the biggest selling of anything is proof the country is poor or has absolutely dire pallets when it comes to food and drink .

Surprised it’s Greggs.
I’m not a big McD food fan (except the occasional breakfast) but isn’t McDonalds coffee the best budget coffee?
srm79 on
This machine made coffee has never been good. Costa coffee is far too bitter. Starbucks blonde was a nice blend but, an ordinary instant coffee has always tasted nicer than the big-production mess. So, when wallets are shrinking I can definitely see why these coffee chains are starting to struggle
