Include that one cafe in the suburb that opens once a year, but mysteriously makes money.

I also have an Italian whateverstore around the corner, once I saw a sign they were selling tiramisu. I had the balls to go ask for some. Apparently a portion was 40 bucks lol, lesson learned.

Include that one hairdresser in my neighborhood with 6 chairs and one dude that hangs out there to smoke shisha between driving city laps in his BMW M6 😂

    3. in Berlin it’s common knowledge that most of the barber shops in certain neighborhoods are connected to the Lebanese mafia. There are so many.

Barber shops, shisha bars, Uber drivers, kebab restaurants, sports betting, arcades, all part of organized money laundering.

Include chinese restaurant in Thalwil, closed 2-3 months per year, only works 4 hours per day, has huge number of tables but most of the time the employees stroll outside since there are no clients. It has been open for decades.

    6. Sometimes it feels like cities tolerate this, because they already struggle with empty commercial zones.

I think one of them just closed in front of the oerlikon station. A whole floor of a building was occupied by a huge, constantly empty restaurant + smoking lounge

Including petrol lamps and antique advert shields atelier, that’s somehow still in busines for ca. 20 years…

    9. Yeah nice that some reporters took the time to do this but can we be a little more thorough?

This is more like “confirms common sense” rather than “serious journalistic exposé”.

I’d really like to know the pizza shop across from Cornavin train station has been in business for decades despite literally never having anyone inside. And a dozen other shops that remain open and empty even as quality restaurants struggle to survive.

Is it just immigrant businesses paying low wages? That seems innocent enough. But there is clearly money laundering going on, so let’s have some more details please.

I had one of those several barber shops owners living in my building.

He also owned kebab shops & his employees were revolving door residents.

The owner came home drunk/coked up one night and tried to beat his fleeing girlfriend outside our door. I opened it and said I was calling the police and he threatened me and his girlfriend begged me not to and he let her go.

I reported him the next morning to the police and landlord and he was gone quickly.

It’s really a shame how my husband and I had to go through strict background checks to get our apartment and this guy was able to get one under a company name and bring in illegal residents etc. as much as he wanted to.

But declaring a loss every year would dispeove the money laundering accusation?

    12. Last time I went to cut my hair I want to the barber shop in my neighbourhood. Super dodgy and dirty place, and surprise surprise, they don’t take Twint or Card, only cash…
