I think the chances of an all-out invasion in the next five years are almost zero
But what about smaller skirmishes? What if they step up Arctic patrols in contested waters? What if they land a small party on a remote Canadian island?
What if they engage in non military actions that threaten our natural security? What if they start pumping water out of the Great Lakes? What if spare parts for the F-35s we purchase are not forthcoming unless we back them in some military action?
What if Trump does something audacious to forestall the end of his administration?
I also don’t think it’s safe to assume that things will return to normal once Trump is out of office. The problems that put him in office for the second term haven’t gone away, including the role of private money in US politics. Whether it’s Vance or Hegseth who succeed Trump, both seem content to carry on the rhetoric of mistrust and nationalism
So what do we see in 20 or 30 years? US wealth inequality is only growing. Their national debt recently crossed the $40T mark and their social security may have to be cut by 20+% in a few short years
The US is in decline and I don’t think that decline will be peaceful or easy

The truth is its extremely unlikely America would attack us
Soldiers will not likely march on their own family and there’s plenty of American expats here with family at home. Other soldiers will refuse on principle. It will be difficult to reorganize.
But most of all it would end in financial ruin. US$ is chosen as global currency because it’s very stable, a war with Canada would result in immediate global sanctions, their exports would drop near instantly.
And they absolutely would sanction the US and adopt another currency because they become a threat, if they invade Canada they will invade anyone.
The world would sooner financially cripple America than fight in conventional war.
It’s not impossible for sure, but Trump loves money enough that he wouldn’t jeopardize his gravy train.

Even during the best of times ever, it’s always a non-zero chance. It might not be probable, but it’s always possible.
And when they start making public statements that it’s zero? That definitely moves the probability needle closer to 1.
So this is all wildly overblown. Of course we have a plan of action if the U.S. were to invade, we’ve likely had plans and contingencies for that for like a century. It would be irresponsible to not have those plans.
Also of all the crazy shit Trump could do, invading Canada seems extremely unlikely. If that happens, the U.S. falls apart… not that it isnt now, but that would be another level of falling apart. As in a civil war. If that happens, the world order breaks apart. Its easy to make stupid policies and stunt-like executive orders. Its easy to villanize minorities, go to war in the middle East, and pressure countries economically. Its easy to make loud statements on social media just for views.
Its not easy to sell the Americans a war in their sphere of the world, against a predominantly white country with a similar culture that speaks the same language. And yes, most still view Canada favourably because they come here regularly and have family here.
They would face overwhelming resistance internally, and Canada isnt known for just rolling over. It would be a shitshow militarily.
Trump wants a legacy, but he also CRAVES praise. It would be the most unpopular move of U.S. history, virtually impossible to sell to Americans, and an infinitely bigger disaster than Vietnam.
Fuck him all the same, but I just don’t see this happening in any scenario.

It wouldn’t be an “invasion” it would be 3-10 years from now after fascism solidified in America. They would send “peace keeping forces” into alberta ala ukraine. Fox news would be spending years fomenting discord towards canada. Think how much things have changed in a year. Now think about 3 years from now if things don’t shift.
