Makes sense. Energy subsidies tend to be a bad approach anyway since they blunt the incentive to reduce consumption. Argentina also has burgeoning domestic production from the Vaca Muerta field so natural gas should become much more plentiful (it’s in the process of flipping from a net importer to a net exporter).

I can’t comment on how cold these regions are, but generally, gas subsidies are not a good policy or a good use of resources…
If the goal is to to help poor people who struggle with their energy bills, then simply provide financial assistance directly to those people.
Don’t subsidize the gas use of an entire region, which A) helps a lot of people who are well off and don’t need subsidies, B) rewards those who use the most gas, and thus and C) incentivizes more fossil fuel use, and discourages conservation or switching to alternatives.
