He’s a cutie! The only time I’ve ever seen them in the flesh was in the wilds of tropical Mayo😂
A common Lizard & Smooth Newt couldn’t be more different, newts have eyes like frogs, and don’t have scales.

While the [Common or Viviparous Lizard](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viviparous_lizard) (*Zootoca vivipara*) is found in Ireland, that’s a [Smooth Newt](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smooth_newt) (*Lissotriton vulgaris*), if you’d turned it over, you’d have seen that it has a spotted belly (the spots on the belly of the male are larger than those on the female, and also the male has an orange stripe down the middle of his belly).
That’s amazing. Where abouts are you? I wonder how big do they get?
Newt?
I saw one, momentarily, in my Mayo garden, basing on a sunny rock. It bolted, and it was *fast*! I’d been looking out for one for absolute years and was well chuffed.
