      Because Chris Hansen was an egotistical scumbag and the show actually did far more to disrupt active investigations that poisoned the judicial process than to do the real work needed to put monsters away.

      Pedophilia is wrong and a man who cynically profited off it to become a TV star is also bad.

      I like to consider myself a fairly normie dude. This show was at its height around the time I was in college. A lot of my friends like to watch it while we were drinking/blazing and having a good time. Laughing at the perp tripping over himself to escape.

      Personally, I found it extremely sickening. Obviously, any dude who is trying to have sex with a young teen needs to be removed from society (or at the least tracked on a list for life).

      But, these dudes were almost always mentally affected. Like, clearly very low IQ, troubled dudes who were often confused about what was happening at all. It felt super wrong to watch these events as entertainment. There’s no winners here, only victims. It’s like getting off to seeing nightmarish hell situations in real life.

      The most insane takes I ever hear about these kinds of situations is when people make arguments like „they are creating situations for people to commit a crime that they otherwise wouldn’t have committed if they weren’t given the opportunity“. That shit literally – BLOWS.MY.MIND.

      Chris isn’t a villain but he’s certainly no saint. Everyone points to that would-be episode of his show that made a guy kill himself. Then there’s what you can gleam from a closer examination of his psychology and career. Ultimately money is his true motivator. The self-righteous validation of pedo hunting is just an added perk.

      Chris Hansen is to pedo hunting what Bill Nye is to science. Though I reckon I’d be far more eager to have dinner will Bill since he seems more chill and intelligent.

      Haven’t seen the movie, but Chris Hansen irl is not a good guy. During the whole Onision (YouTube pedo) drama online he pretending to gather evidence to send it to the police/ fbi but never did. He just got a bunch of donations on his live pretending to investigate on him.

      the problem with this, and what i imagine the movie is mostly about, is that chris and the tv show arent the ones saving children. their primary job is to make entertainment and profit.

      i, like most people on the planet, have not seen the movie yet. however from the trailer i didn’t get “chris hansen is the villain” vibes. i got anti hero who only cares for fame, ratings and money vibes. it’s the same situation for a lot of pedo catchers, the children’s safety is secondary to the attention and glory it brings the catchers. the original post as well as 90% of the comments is just another excuse to spread anti semitism and has 0 critical thinking behind it. if, when i eventually watch the movie, notice the film actually just portraying hansen as a villain with no nuance and defends the pedos, i’ll swallow my words and make an apology post, but this post as a whole reads as you lacking any media literacy. i am 90% sure the film is going to be questioning, is doing something good, for your own personal gain, still good? same way youtubers will film themselves feeding homeless people. yes, they are technically doing good, giving the homeless money, but they are exploiting these people, capitalising off of doing so, and getting richer themselves off of others misfortune, which doesn’t really ring any different a CEO, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk get rich off of others misfortune. the only difference is, one guy, Hansen, is doing it under a guise of doing good…

      cause they turned the legal process into entertainment, and the show moved very much toward being a vehicle for Hansen’s schtick. its a weird combo, criminal justice and gotcha style video with charasmatic host. its kinda low hanging fruit IMO.

      Blaire White interviewed Chris Hanson & he said he believed Epstein committed suicide. Maybe he thought it was a better career move to not say anything controversial 🤷. Honestly the most reliable stance to have when 2 groups are fighting, is to assume they are both bad. Maybe for him, „bad“ isn’t the right word. Controlled opposition might be more accurate.

      To Catch a Predator and Chris Hansen have had a net positive effect on society. The show exposed horrific predatory behavior to mainstream viewers, prevented a great number of predators from carrying out the heinous crimes they intended, and sparked a national conversation about how such people operate. There are, I’m sure, questionable aspects of these cases, and there are sound arguments that Hansen’s involvement complicated law enforcement’s work afterward. Still, these concerns shouldn’t overshadow the ways in which he is a hero.

      Side note: one of the best Cameos I’ve ever received was from Chris Hansen, warning me to stay safe during COVID
