Religious women are more receptive to potential partners on dating apps, study suggests

That’s contrary to what researchers expected? It’s clear that religion generally tells women that their value in this world is derived from their child-bearing abilities and their subservience to their husbands. I don’t see much of anything there that would encourage women to think more about themselves and their own preferences.

They are trying to escape
Aren’t most religions centered around a male figure of authority? Wouldn’t the natural inclination be to seek those in real life? I’m not understanding the surprise either. Almost all religions seem to worship men and/or hold them in higher regard or at least superior.
If they’re taught that lust is sinful, they’re not looking for a man they are attracted to.
You’re not „saving“ my heathen ass, just fyi.
My most religious friend will date absolute monsters for weeks before she ends the relationship even when it is clear they aren’t a match for her. I wonder why. I always thought a lot could be screened out initially.
Example: one of her dates ghosted her for a bit and came back and she started talking to him again…turns out he didn’t ghost her, he was arrested for domestic violence.
I’m not seeing anywhere they investigated which profiles religious women were most likely to accept a profile.
Clearly, different profiles would be acceptable to religious vs non-religious women. So I feel these results could be trivially manipulated by what you emphasize in the profile.
Now maybe they found a way to get a representative sampling of real profiles, but again, dependin on where they get those from they would get very different results.
So while it is worth looking further into why religious women were more accepting here, I very much doubt this study, with its obvious limitations, showed a general effect, rather than an effect for the set of profiles they picked.
First of all: how did they come up with the idea
Second of all: considered the correlation is so loose how are they sure that religion plays a role in it?
Third of all: why did they make this study in the first place? I mean, I don’t really see an utility in it though I might be wrong
The more I read the article, the weirder and more wishy-washy the entire process seems. There are a lot of „I think“ assumptions in it for me to take the people doing this study, seriously.
I think one possibility might be that, since they’re more likely to be looking for specific social attributes that might be uncorrelated with a profile picture and short written biography, greater openness on the initial match allows a wider pool to search for those attributes.
I no longer believe this sort of article. Real life experience taught me otherwise. :p
But yeah I get it, read the article and seems trustworthy. But when you try it in real life and it just.. doesn’t pan out and experience is quite telling.
So there’s a data trend showing that religious women are actually more open minded. Fascinating. Wonder why that is
We’re living in an era when religious women are less uptight than secular women. The 2020s are a wild time.
Religion enforces pick me behavior? And forces women to settle??? Of course this was the result. And those men don’t want to date them they want to date progressive modern women because they want to clip our wings. While conservative women are just begging for a chance.
I suspect that the word “initial” is pretty key here.
As a part of that community growing up, having a family is valued more highly to these subcultures than in more secular-forward ones. The ladies can be picky in the end, but they really do ideally want to pair up in a long term relationship, so it makes sense to me anecdotally that they’d genuinely consider prospective suitors at a higher rate than other subcultures.
Additionally I’m not sure what the data shows now, but when I was younger, more young women tended to be deeply committed to their faith as a whole than men, so they were under a little of the scarcity pressure that men are usually under, so being more initially open makes sense for that reason too.
They are trying to get married and have babies ASAP
Religious women are socialised from a young age to submit to male peers and elders, this is really hard surprising.
Also does this sub use some weird AI comment filter? I had to re-write the same remark three times before I was allowed to post it, basically just changed the wording slightly until the warning went away.
Many of us who were raised in very religious communities were conditioned to always search for meaning and validation outside of ourselves. Therefore if the validation/purpose feels lacking, we are obligated to search more ardently- which often leads to high risk situations and relationships because we’ve ruled out safer situations and come up empty. Add to that the tendency for religious communities to normalize authoritarian leaders and controlling behaviors and et voila! a nightmare of emotional dependency ensues.
It’s because they prioritize being in a traditional relationship more than themselves or any partner they could ever had. I know a woman who was so upset she wasn’t fulfilling god’s expectations of her that she hastily married an illegal so he could not be deported and is now in an abusive relationship she will never leave. She chalks his controlling ways up to it just being “his culture.”
I’m pro believe whatever makes your soul content, but goodness this level is extreme.
makes sense why prison wives.
Man i really can’t stand when people say „more“ without stating what it’s more than. More women than what? More likely than what? Your statement is meaningless unless you include what you’re comparing it to.
That’s not surprising to me I would guess religious women looking to date would be less superficial. Yes they would have standards but those standards would be easier for men to meet. For example they may care less about a man being over a certain height or making a certain amount of money.
