Our governor in Indiana has currently suspended the gas taxes that we usually have. That’s the only reason we’re below $4 (for now).
Hopefully theirs skyrockets soon, since they voted for this.

It was $3.75 in Louisville yesterday which I assume it gets cheaper elsewhere in KY.
In the last 60 days, the Houthis have escalated their attacks against Saudi Arabia and contested the Bab al Mandab strait. The recent surge is due largely to that conflict, made more painful by the past 6 months or so in the Iranian conflict and issues in the Straits of Hormuz
A closure of the Suez Canal now would be absolutely catastrophic. I wonder if the US/Europe will try to stop the Houthis with military force now
Yesterday a friend asked what gas was looking like in my town. I checked and told him $3.86. I went to get gas about 5 hours later and it was already up to $4.17. Thanks a lot, Biden!
Many Chicagoland gas stations changed to $4.99 yesterday afternoon. Soon we will be over $5.00.
Everyone where I live mostly drive diesel. Just hit 7.299 at the station nearest to me. Diesel for semi trucks is hovering around 6.80. regular is 4.95.

The only reason Indiana’s gas is cheap is because the state cut the gas tax off for a bit and then cut it with more ethanol.
It might help if California would open up areas that have an an extensive amount of oil deposits not drilled

In Arkanses. Every pump in town is around 3.70
I live in Joplin, MO and gas at Walmart is $3.79 a gallon.
Don’t forget that we’re already paying for ethanol long before it gets to the pump.
40% of US corn production goes straight to ethanol plants. In the past decade, American taxpayers have funded more than $30 *billion* on corn subsidies.
Saying it’s under 4 dollars in Louisiana when it’s 3.98 is technically correct but really laughable.

Indiana has temporarily suspended collection of their state gas tax (60.9 cents/gallon). Once collection starts up again the price will be well over $4.00.
One regional affect on price that I don’t think a lot of people factor in is how the fuel is transported.
I’m in the gas station industry in Oregon (outside of Portland) and all of our gas/diesel comes down the Olympic Pipeline from the refinery in Ferndale, WA. It supplies Seattle and Eugene, OR terminals as well.
Why does that matter? The amount of times that pipeline is „down for maintenance“ is infuriating. When it’s shut down the supply starts drying up and price starts soaring.
So take an already nationally high price and jack that up some more. That’s just here in the PNW, but I’m sure other regions have similar issues.
On average I assume. We still have gas next to my daughter’s store for 3.89 in TN. It’s a Murphy’s in Bartlett. I guess being associated with Walmart has its perks.
