Being sent away for boarding is quite the toll on a young mind though.

Even if there aren’t any private schools, there will be other ways to imbalance the education resources. So there is no end.

He’s playing Lucius Malfoy in an adaptation of the book that the character doesn’t actually appear in. He’s a good actor, but I wouldn’t exactly call him „Harry Potter’s new star“.

The actual article seems to indicate it has more to do with his boarding experience of being separated from his family than anything to do with conditions or elitism. I think you’ve all been jumping hard on the headline.

Yes, money has a massive impact on the standard of education and there should be more money given to the education system. I am in full support of funding our public services.
But whenever the conversations about private schools ans the wealthy come up, they always miss a key bit that I always hear from parents who have/will put their kids in private schools.
The standard of education is one thing, but it’s their kids being in the same class with kids who obviously have behavioural issues, that haven’t had good parenting, and are not who you want your kids to be around. These aren’t the most wealthy people putting their kids into private schools for this reason, they jsut sacrifice the vast majority of their salary to afford to, and cut down on everything else.
Yes the education system needs more money for better educational standards, but more and more, parents are seeing some of the behaviours of kids these days and turning away from state schools.
A story where someone is so traumatised by Hogwarts that they try and burn the place down sounds like it’d make for a bloody great play
My sense is that it just means instead of paying for school to make sure your kids hob nob with the right sort you just pay for a house to make sure your kids hob nob with the right sort. I went to Cambridge 20 years ago and there were plenty of people from state schools but hardly any from poor areas. They all just bought expensive houses near good state schools.
