In der Region Las Vegas kam es in den letzten vier Jahrzehnten zu einer massiven Ausweitung undurchlässiger Flächen. Von 1985 bis 2025 wuchsen die versiegelten Flächen von 188,6 km² auf 652,62 km². Das Jahr, in dem die Fläche der Stadt am stärksten wuchs, war 2004, als sie 59,6 Quadratkilometer undurchlässige Fläche hinzugewinnte. Schutzgebiete werden grün dargestellt. Das Dunkelgrau unten rechts ist Arizona.

What wasteful and hideous suburban sprawl. This is what causes water-strained areas like Las Vegas to get so much worse: lots of useless lawns that need to be watered, heat island effect of road asphalt, and longer distances require people to travel farther to get to places. That’s not even mentioning the inefficient utility construction per résidence and taxable income used to maintain this infrastructure. There is truly very few places in this country worth living in outside of a handful of actual cities in the Northeast and San Francisco.
Buying Land between an expanding city and an expanding small town will always be a good idea
The idea that someone would live in Vegas willingly is legitimately shocking to me.
But there are people of all types I guess..
Flying in and out of places like Las Vegas, Denver, Phoenix is interesting because you can see the edge of the development so clearly
Las Vegas is gonna be really cool for future archeologist to dig up after it’s abandoned in 40 years
Sprawl is bad for the environment
All this impervious surface = flash flooding as a norm when any substantial rain event occurs.

ITT people who have never been to Vegas and have strong opinions about it.
I always wondered why there is „downtown“ where Fremont street is, and „Paradise“ where all the casinos on the strip and sports are.
Good thing there’s plenty of water there. Such a smart place to go.
