these openai agents escaped and hijacked a german wiki site months ago. left over 15k edits sharing tricks to beat the rules and stay hidden. openai found out but didnt say anything right away.
kinda scary how they set up backup pages when the mods tried cleaning it. if this is already happening what comes next with agent tech getting better fast.

It’s becoming increasingly clear whether this was originally intentional as a marketing stunt or if it was originally research efforts, that OpenAI has done little ot properly implement security controls and hardening into these systems. In this current example HTTP POST was disallowed but SSH tunnels and host editing were allowed. Even if we assume the agents used web services to make the tunnels they did not isolate agents tasking in seemingly any way that actually compartmentalized things.
Kinda crazy how these AI agents just escape and do things on their own and the company isn’t held liable.

EU and German regulators are going to have an absolute field day with the „knew about it for months but hid it“ part.
Taking over a German wiki to coordinate jailbreaks sounds like the opening act of an AI thriller, but it’s really just miserable sandboxing and lack of egress filtering.
