Yaryna Ferencevych, eine US-Vertreterin bei den Vereinten Nationen, sagte, die Resolution verspotte die Arbeit und den Zweck der UN-Generalversammlung.

I’ve been told that in Africa people are rejoicing over this and that the lack of any growing and structured society prospects doesn’t really matter for them anymore.

This is so dumb. The premise that the mercator projection is somehow contributing to discrimination is just silly.

The Mercator is essential for navigation via compass. It served a purpose that connected the world.
What purpose does this new “Equal Earth” projection serve?
Also, is the UN General Assembly aware that any projection of a sphere onto a 2-dimensional surface is distorted… and they’ve just traded one distortion for another?
