Playstation evil playthrough go brrrrrr. Seriously what a way to destroy any goodwill they had. They’re really banking on gamers not caring enough to fight back, which tbh gamers are known to fold easily

I’ve never owned a PlayStation in my life and don’t intend to change that anytime soon.

I mean, when I purchase games from the playstation store, at the price of the physical disc and the playstation stores says buy instead of buy as long as we have digital control of the media would assume to me that the game is mine. Right? Am im dumber then the average gamers?

    4. I’d recommend cancelling your PS+ subscriptions. I did recently. Make your point with your wallets, it’s all they care about.

    5. If PlayStation or Xbox were to have a „Rent“ button instead of „Buy“ button then I’d understand. Messed up of them to change the definition of buy to their liking.

Why even buy new games at this point? I’d rather just replay old stuff because a majority of the new stuff coming out isn’t that great and costs an arm and a leg.

So I can’t own the digital version of a game and they are refusing to manufacturer physical media making it impossible for me to own any games I buy. So we’re renting games again?

    8. They are going to win, too. This has already been settled in court by Apple, amazon, et al. regarding film and tv.

    9. I’ve owned every console since the Magnavox Odyssey through the PS3. With the PS4 generation, I decided to go Sony-exclusive, so I haven’t owned the last two XBoxes or anything else.

I’m not going to buy a PS6. I will not support a digital-only console. There hasn’t been much advancement in gaming technology over the past 15 years anyway, and I have more than enough games stockpiled to last the rest of my life.

    10. The court should force Sony to change “Buy” button to “Buy limited access temporary digital license” button instead on PlayStation stores.

I am glad I went with Xbox and Nintendo this generation. Support companies who listen to their customers.

Hypothetically, if they “prove” we don’t own purchased digital games, then can we refund them all, based on the fact we all bought them with understanding of ownership?

Self-fulfilling prophecy. If I don’t own my digital games then I simply won’t own any digital games.

    13. If we don’t own the games then don’t use a „buy“ button on your sites Sony. I’d love to see a „Rent“ or „Lease“ button implemented. Until then I’ll make the claim that I own the game.

I bought a Series X for another room instead of another PlayStation. Not that this one decision makes any huge difference but at least Microsoft is doing disc to digital and granting PC licenses too.

    15. >To use such terms, the seller must make a „clear and conspicuous“ statement that the buyer will not own the digital good and will instead receive only a license.

This would be a pretty easy UI change, surely cheaper than a lawsuit, and the only reason to not do it is that customers are being deceived.

    16. So glad I cancelled PSN after initial price hikes a few years back. $80 year for what?

I hope they win. So i can know what I’m getting in to next time i buy a game. Right now it feels a little scammy.

To be clear, this will not stop them from you not owning your games in the future. All future ToS will be updated, and all buttons on their stores, to be clear it’s not a purchase, it’s a revoke-able license.

So nothing this case does will stop that future, only not buying their products can change that. This case will only determine if people own what they’ve already purchased.

Then they better stop using the word “buy” in regards to their games. We have a word for what they’re doing: rent.

If you say „purchase“ on the store and demand REAL ID like I’m buying alcohol or tobacco to buy it, you better make it I OWN that thing IRREVOCABLY.

    21. halflifer2k on

I’m a simple man. I click “buy” and enter a password and have always assumed that I now own what I just bought, digitally instead of physically.
