To clarify that headline just a but, she’s not leaving because of the racist accusation, but because Findlay refused to apologize for or retract her statement even as she purported to lead Wat in a caucus.
What’s going on with BC Conservatives? Why do they seem so much more „Alberta-ish“ than Ontario Conservatives (for example)? I feel like I can work with Doug Ford’s party, but these Western Conservative parties appear to be carbon copies of Trump’s GOP.
**Examples:**
* automatic distrust of anyone from a different ethnicity than „British Isles anglo/protestant descent“
* automatic assumption that non-white people have more loyalty to the country their forefathers came from, than from Canada – and a wholesale acceptance of the groypers‘ „Great Replacement“ conspiracy theory
* a blind love for the American Alt-Right and belief that everything that America does works better than how Canada does it (i.e. education, healthcare)
The complete normalization of racism against Chinese-Canadian politicians is utterly disgusting and nobody seems to consider it a problem.
According to the Interwebs, Teresa Wat is born in Hong Kong, spent some time in Singapore and then moved to British Columbia in 1989. Hong Kong was a UK territory until 1999. So she has never even lived in Communist China at any point in her life. At most she visited for work, including as the BC Trade Minister.
Kinda wild that the leader of a political party would say something so crazy racist in a province that is like 15% Asian by ethnicity.
Good job BC Conservatives. This election should’ve been a cakewalk, but you went with someone so thoroughly right-wing AND disagreeable that MLA’s are walking away.
Findlay won by a hair on the forth round of ballots. Why ON EARTH is she acting like she has some governing mandate over sitting, elected members of her party?
