Ich würde gerne wissen, was darin steht.

Quick translation from chatgpt:
My roots ache like those of a tree transplanted to a foreign land,
Torn from my own soil, no other earth can make me thrive.
I am such a stranger here; I could never make their ways my own,
My roots cut through, the wind carries me wherever it pleases.
I keep thinking this is only a dream, that I will wake,
And, as in childhood, greet the morning barefoot once again.
Georgian soil planted a poet deep within me,
And now my soul can no longer embrace another land.
The misfortune of my homeland hurts me even more from here;
The roots I left behind are always calling me.
“I will return!” I tell myself a hundred, a thousand times.
No force is strong enough to overcome the homeland’s call.
A Georgian emigrant carries a different kind of longing;
Their homeland aches within them like a sick and wounded heart.
I recognize my own people by their eyes—we share the same sorrow.
Nowhere abroad will you find a Georgian truly at ease.
I am a tree uprooted from my Georgian soil;
Raised by that earth, no foreign land can save me.
Emigration is a pain that never truly heals,
And far from home, you learn the true worth of a person’s dignity.
Looks like a poem to me
Its titled „Pain of a Georgian Immigrant“
Basically about missing her homeland and pains associated with it
16-17 July 2016.
Sorry I can’t translate the whole thing, I’m bad at Georgian cursive and my eyes are hurting, maybe someone else here can
The pain of a Georgian immigrant
As a tree planted on foreign soil, my roots hurt. Having been ripped out of my soil, other soil can’t make me happy. I cannot adjust to another’s law. With my roots cut the wind carries me as it pleases, it feels like I dream and I hope I wake up soon.
Like a toddler, barefoot, I will greet the morning, Georgian soil engraved a poet into my soul, and my heart can’t handle another soil anymore.
The despair of my country hurts me more from here. My roots are there and they keep calling to me to return. A hundred times. A thousand.
No strength can overbear the call of my motherland. The nostalgic call is different for a Georgian immigrant. My country hurts me just as an illness hurts someone sick.
I recognize all, like me, who are hurting, we share the pain. You will never find a Georgian happy on another land.
I have been removed (ამოგლეჯილი – so a lot more painful and dramatic) from my Georgian land. No one can save that land unless they’ve been raised by it.
Being an immigrant is unbearable pain.
The true honor of a man can only be understood from abroad.
16-17 July, 2016. Ketino (can’t read the last name)
Probably because the poem uses a similar metaphor, but now I really feel like watching (and sobbing through) the movie ფესვები (Roots).
It’s such a beautiful and emotional film. I tear up just thinking of the title melody.
Edit – @OP, if you don’t know the film, watch it. Based on how your grandma wrote in that letter, she felt similar to the protagonist in the movie.
What a sweet grandma and how much pain she was carrying. 🥹 I’m leaving the country in a week and God, really didn’t need to read that letter. 😭
having lived abroad before this hits hard, damn
