Interesting new observational study out of Finland (University of Oulu) looking at coffee’s relationship with body comp and sex hormones.
The most notable callout: coffee drinkers showed lower visceral/total fat and higher muscle mass, even when BMI was identical across groups. They also found a distinct sex-hormone response (higher total testosterone/SHBG in men, though free T was slightly lower; higher SHBG in women).
Obviously observational so correlation doesn’t equal causation here but given Finland’s huge coffee intake, it’s a solid dataset. Curious to hear people’s thoughts on the SHBG elevation vs. free androgen split, or if anyone’s seen similar metabolic shifts in other studies.

I think we now have all the evidence to be able to definitively state that moderate consumption of coffee (not caffeine) in a healthy individual in the long term is not harmful in the worst case scenario

Maybe with no cream or sugar. And also, coffee raises cortisol levels, which is associated with increased belly fat. So…which study to believe?
